Dr. Mary Alvord has a forthcoming book, The Action Mindset Workbook for Teens, Simple CBT Skills to Help You Conquer Fear and Self-Doubt and Take Steps Toward What Really Matters. This unique resource is for teens who struggle with taking action. Packed with simple and easy-to-apply skills drawn from cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), readers will learn to cultivate an action mindset, reduce worry, and take the steps needed to solve problems—rather than avoid them. The book helps readers quiet that inner “voice of doom,” give up the need for perfection, and manage the difficult emotions that can come with living a life on hold. The book will be released on August 1, 2023, and is available for pre-order now.

Dr. Ilene Serlin spent three weeks in Portugal as part of a grant from the American Embassy in Lisbon’s EDI committee. The grant was for the training of Gestalt therapists and volunteers working with refugees and immigrants in Portugal to incorporate dance movement therapy into their work. The three stages of training include a focus on embodiment (understanding nonverbal and symbolic communication), culturally-sensitive trauma therapy principles, and self-care. The goal of the project is to enable national dancers and volunteers who work or intend to work with refugees and migrants to use dance and movement to facilitate refugees’ resilience, fostering integration and building community.

Dr. Lawrence Balter was a panelist at the “Children and Young Adults Mental Health Panel” sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (FRBNY).  His presentation was on “Social Media and Children’s Self-Esteem.”  His discussion centered on how parents and caregivers can offset the potential pitfalls of social media and he offered childrearing techniques for boosting children’s self-esteem.

Dr. Allyson Powell-Hicks has created The Doux You Deck, a unique and powerful tool for personal growth and self-improvement. These interventions have been carefully crafted through years of direct client work and research into the art of internal healing and self-acceptance. Journal cards offer prompts and exercises to help explore thoughts and emotions through writing. Meditation cards provide guidance and techniques for calming the mind and finding inner peace. Doux cards offer tools and strategies for cultivating self-love and compassion.
